Generally, I don’t post on Monday because I post over on Bitter Lawyer (which you should check out today’s post). However, every so often there are stories that are so good I can’t pass up as they are humorous and fit what I want to blog about. Today I was presented with one such story. I have wanted to throw a shout out to a fellow classmate of mine at Ohio Northern University who is now writing her own blog. Sammi Phillips (ONU ’11) is currently clerking for a Common Pleas Judge in Pennsylvania. In her blog, Sammi focuses on legal issues in the fashion industry and does a great job of it.
One legal fashion faux pas that I am sure Sammi would agree with me on is the wardrobe choice of a Florida man facing drug trafficking charges. The defendant, who has not yet been identified, made a strong first impression when he showed up in his “crack shirt.” The shirt, as you can see, is a step-by-step instructions for making crack cocaine (close-up below). Attorney, Michael Weinstein, who took the picture, stated, “I realized the gentleman who was up at the podium in front of the judge charged with trafficking is wearing a jacket with a how-to manual of how to cook crack cocaine. I couldn’t believe the gumption this person had.”
Is this defendant a drug-dealer-hipster-ironic-shirt kid? Is he trying to show that he obviously can’t cook crack because he wears shirts about cooking crack? Perhaps he is trying to confuse the judge the same way I am confused. Nobody can be that dumb can they? This guy is either a genius or the dumbest criminal I have ever seen. Either way, gumption swag for days.
